Ernst Baumann (music educator)

Ernst Baumann (born March 25, 1907 in Oelsnitz / Erzgeb.October 7, 1993 ) was a German teacher, music educator and composer who made lasting contributions to the musical and cultural work in the city and district of Freital.

Life

He came from the Saxon Erzgebirge . After attending school, Ernst Baumann went to study at the conservatory and then at the University of Leipzig . Then he worked as a teacher and music educator in Mülsen-St. Niclas, Ziegelheim, Grumbach, Unkersdorf, Oberwartha, Pennrich, Braunsdorf, Wilsdruff and in his place of birth Oelsnitz.

In 1950 Ernst Baumann founded a folk art ensemble in Wilsdruff with a children's choir and music group as well as wind instruments. A short time later he was commissioned to set up a folk music school in Kesselsdorf, which he took over. With his folk art ensemble from Wilsdruff, he won first prize in the 1952 folk art competition in the Meißen district . Two years later she successfully participated in the Dresden Music Days. In 1955 the first radio recording followed in the Wilsdruff music school.

In neighboring Braunsdorf, Ernst Baumann led the mixed folk choir founded in 1946.

In 1956 Ernst Baumann performed Georg Krietsch's fairy tale opera Zwerg Nase by Georg Krietsch for the first time in the GDR at the Dresden Music Days . In 1958, on behalf of the city of Wilsdruff, he set up the local Singspielsudio, which he led as a choir director until he reached retirement age in 1972. The music of the piece Die Schildbürger , which premiered in 1960, comes from Ernst Baumann, the libretto from Rudolf Kirsten.

For several years Ernst Baumann was director of the folk music school founded on September 1st, 1956 in Freital .

He devoted himself particularly intensively to identifying and promoting talent. His students include singers like Heinz Hillmann, the bass-baritone Peter Olesch and the baritone Peter Tschaplik.

He left behind several self-composed songs and instrumental pieces, including the rural candate .

Honors

The Freital-Wilsdruff group of the special association of breeders of German show pigeons donated the Ernst Baumann Memorial Cup .
