Ernst Daniel Goldschmidt

Ernst Daniel Goldschmidt (born December 9, 1895 in Königshütte , † December 10, 1972 in Jerusalem ) was a German-Israeli librarian.

Life

Goldschmidt was the son of Salomon Goldschmidt , who worked as a rabbi in Königshütte from 1890 to 1925. Ernst Daniel Goldschmidt attended high school in Königshütte and then studied Classical and Semitic Philology in Breslau and Berlin. In 1925 he passed the state examination and received his doctorate. From 1916 to 1918 he was a soldier in the First World War. In 1926 he became a trainee at the Berlin State Library , and in 1928 he passed the library specialist examination. From then on, he worked at the State Library on the complete catalog of incidental prints . In 1935 he was forced to retire due to the National Socialist " Law for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service ". In 1936 he emigrated to Palestine and found a job at the Jerusalem Jewish National and University Library .
