Ernst Eckert
Ernst Rudolph Georg Eckert (born September 13, 1904 in Prague ; † July 8, 2004 in Saint Paul (Minnesota) ) was a fluid mechanic who, through his work on heat transfer in cryogenic materials through to plasmas and studies on percolation in porous materials and related topics to the development of efficient turbines and engines. The Eckert number is named after him.
Life
After graduating as a graduate engineer in 1927 from the Technical University in Prague, receiving his doctorate in 1931 and habilitation in 1938, he worked at the German Aeronautical Research Institute in Braunschweig during the Second World War . After the war, he worked at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base as part of Operation Overcast , a Cold War program that allowed German scientists and technicians to work in the United States.
In 1951 Eckert became a professor at the University of Minnesota , where he stayed until his retirement in 1973.
