Ernst Franke (ophthalmologist)

Friedrich Adolf Ernst Franke (born January 6, 1856 in Filehne , † 1925 in Hamburg ) was a German ophthalmologist.

Life

Ernst Franke studied medicine at the University of Greifswald from 1874 to 1878. At the beginning of his studies he became a member of the Corps Guestfalia . After his doctorate as Dr. med. in 1878 he was an assistant doctor at the University Eye Clinic under Rudolf Schirmer from 1879 to 1880 . From 1881 to 1884 he was an assistant doctor and from 1884 an ophthalmologist in Hamburg, where he became the head of the eye department of the St. Georg Hospital . Of particular importance were his work on pemphigus and essential shrinkage of the conjunctiva , studies on infection and disinfection of eye washes and on the pathological anatomy of leprosy of the eyes .

Awards

Ernst Franke was awarded the title of professor. The Corps Guestfalia Greifswald made him an honorary member.
