Wielen is a municipality in the Grafschaft Bentheim district in Lower Saxony and is part of the Uelsen municipality . In the village there is the oldest surviving school in the Lower Counties : Het Schöltien .

Geographical location

Wielen is located northwest of Nordhorn on the border with the Netherlands . To the east of Wielen is the municipality of Wilsum , to the southeast the municipality of Itterbeck , both of which also belong to the Uelsen municipality. The district of Vennebrügge is the westernmost place on the Lower Saxony mainland. In the west is the Dutch municipality of Hardenberg .

Municipal council

The Wielen municipal council consists of nine councilors who were last elected in the Lower Saxony municipal elections in 2016 . These have formed a joint electoral list.

Wielen is on Landesstrasse 43. There is a regular dial-a-bus connection from the Verkehrsgemeinschaft Grafschaft Bentheim (VGB) to Itterbeck , where there is a connection to the regional bus line 10 in the direction of Emlichheim , Uelsen and Neuenhaus . In Neuenhaus there are connections to the train line RB 56 in the direction of Nordhorn and Bad Bentheim and to the regional bus line 30 in the direction of Nordhorn.
