Ernst Franzos (born August 25, 1877 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary ; † August 13, 1941 in Auschwitz concentration camp ) was an Austrian film salesman, producer and production manager.

Live and act

Little is known about the life of Ernst Franzos. After completing his commercial apprenticeship, he started as a film clerk and in the late 1920s worked as a production manager for several films by producer Lothar Stark in Berlin . Later he also worked as a producer in Paris , Budapest and Vienna . After he had to leave Hitler's Germany , Franzos and his Jewish colleague Robert Müller founded a joint production company, Favorit Film, which, however, was only able to produce one film in 1936 given the extremely difficult working conditions for Jewish filmmakers in Austria. In January 1938, Franzos was arrested in Vienna for selling typewriters that had not been paid for. After the annexation of Austria two months later, the French fled to Poland. There he was arrested by German authorities , presumably in Kraków in 1941 , and deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp , where he died a little later under unknown circumstances.
