Ernst Friedrich Langhans

Ernst Friedrich Langhans (born May 2, 1829 in Wimmis ; † April 17, 1880 in Bern ) was a Reformed theologian of a liberal direction from Switzerland .

Ernst Friedrich was the son of pastor Daniel Friedrich Langhans and his first wife Elisabeth Kernen. He had three siblings, his brother was the theologian Eduard Langhans .

In 1855 he became pastor in Lauenen and in 1858 at the Waldau psychiatric clinic . In 1866 he founded the Church Reform Association of the Canton of Bern, which later became a branch of the Swiss Association for Free Christianity , founded in 1871 , and fought for the concerns of this association at synods and in magazines. In 1871 he became associate professor and in 1876 full professor for systematic theology at the University of Bern .
