Ernst Grenzebach

Ernst Grenzebach ( 14. February 1871 in Berlin - 29. May 1936 the same place) was a German concert singer of the vocal multiple baritone and singing teacher . Among other things, he taught two of the most famous hero tenors in the German subject: Max Lorenz and Lauritz Melchior .

life and work

Ernst Grenzebach was the son of a Berlin businessman. From 1900 to 1904 he studied opera and concert singing at the Stern Conservatory . Although he was also active as a concert soloist, from 1904 onwards he primarily devoted himself to teaching. He conducted the Grenzebach women's choir made up of his students. In the 1920s he lived on Nassauische Strasse in Berlin-Wilmersdorf. He was the main teacher of opera and concert singing at the Klindworth-Scharwenka Conservatory , which for decades enjoyed the reputation of an internationally renowned training center. He was considered the singing teacher of Berlin and was engaged as a professor at the State University for Music and Performing Arts from 1928 to 1934 . Else Prausnitz (1885–1976) was the piano accompanist during his lessons for many years.

The later record producer, manager and composer Herbert Grenzebach (1897–1992) was his nephew. His musical training was supported by Ernst Grenzebach.
