Ernst Hameister (born March 7, 1889 in Niederklütz ; † April 4, 1966 in Lübeck ) was a German reciter who devoted himself exclusively to the interpretation of works by Fritz Reuter . He was co-founder in 1960 of the Fritz Reuter Society eV

Life

Actually a Mecklenburg merchant (representative of a Lübeck wine wholesaler), Hameister has faced the task since 1931, the work of Fritz Reuter, the beauty of the Low German language in Reuters writings and the special humor of the writer, one of the most popular figures of North German literature, Entspecter Bräsig , invented mediating at lecture events.

A young German emigrant, who had lived in Java for a while and during this time, to commemorate his homeland, had occupied himself with Reuter's writings a lot, renewed Hameister's previous enthusiasm for the poet.

When, after the First World War , Hameister himself was imprisoned on the Isle of Man for a long time, far from home , the desire grew in him to open up Fritz Reuter's world as an interpreter to a larger audience.

On his return, Hameister used his special knowledge of every nuance of Mecklenburg Low German and was soon considered one of the few who were able to successfully bring the texts into Reuter's Urtext.

In 1941, on a tour of more than four months through occupied Norway, Hameister entertained the soldiers of the German Wehrmacht with Reuter lectures. Hameister described his experiences as a "troop supervisor" and the enthusiastic reception by his men and officers in a newspaper article from November 5, 1941, written in Low German.

By the end of the 1950s, Hameister had already appeared in well over five thousand recitation events when the record company Telefunken made the first recording in 1958 with the "only speaker dedicated exclusively to Fritz Reuter" for the famous speech record series Word and Voice . Others followed.

In 1959, Hameister was awarded the Senate plaque of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck in recognition of his services to the Low German language. At the end of 1960, Hameister was awarded the newly donated Fritz Reuter Medal by the Mecklenburg Landsmannschaft .

On July 15, 1960, Hameister and others founded the Fritz Reuter Society in Lübeck , the aim of which is to "maintain and promote the work of Fritz Reuter and, beyond that, the Low German literature and language".
