Ernst Jakob Buff

Ernst Jakob Buff (born June 7, 1850 in Herisau ; † June 13, 1915 there; resident in Trogen ) was a Swiss entrepreneur from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Ernst Jakob Buff was a son of the teacher and manufacturer Michael Buff. In 1870 he married Anna Bertha Lienberger, a daughter of Kaspar Lienberger. He completed an apprenticeship as an embroidery draftsman. Around 1875, together with Albert Schmidheini, he founded machine embroidery with an attached twisting and finishing facility in Herisau . After separating from Schmidheini, he founded the Buff & Co. embroidery company, which became an important export company. He opened production facilities in Herisau and Zürchersmühle in the Urnäsch community . From 1886 to 1889 Ernst Jakob Buff worked as a councilor in Herisau and at that time was mainly active in the poor .
