Ernst Julius Hentschel
Ernst Julius Hentschel (born July 26, 1804 in Zodel , † August 14, 1875 in Weißenfels ) was a German music teacher .
Life
Hentschel initially received musical training from his grandfather, the cantor and organist Hohberg in Langenwaldau near Liegnitz . After his death in 1811, Hentschel continued his training with his grandfather's successor, an organist named Prüfer. After Hentschel decided to train as a teacher in 1815, Prüfer also taught him the piano and the violin . In 1817 he was accepted at the teachers' college in Kroitsch , where he founded a wind choir and played in a string quartet. In 1821 he switched to the teachers' college in Bunzlau . In 1822 he received a call as an assistant teacher in Weißenfels. In the summer of 1823 Hentschel was able to travel to Johann Bernhard Logier in Berlin at state expense , where he also met Carl Friedrich Zelter . In 1824 Hentschel finally became a lecturer at the teachers' college in Weißenfels.
In a short time, Hentschel earned an excellent reputation as a music and mathematics teacher. In 1831 and 1833 he organized men's singing festivals in Weißenfels. He was the editor and, together with the musician Ludwig Erk, co-founder of the magazine Euterpe and wrote several important educational works.
