Ernst Karl Wieland

Ernst Karl Wieland (born July 21, 1755 in Breslau , † February 16, 1828 in Leipzig ) was a German philosopher and historian.

Life

The son of Johann Michael Wieland began his career on April 14, 1774 with a degree in philosophical sciences at the University of Frankfurt (Oder) . There he obtained his master's degree in international law in 1776 , which at the time also corresponded to a doctorate in philosophy. He then moved to the University of Leipzig , where his habilitation took place in 1777, and in 1780 he was appointed to an extraordinary professorship in philosophy.

After Wieland was employed as a second professor of history in the cadet corps in Berlin as a teacher for a while in 1803 in Prussian service, and had also obtained the title of Prussian court counselor, he returned to Leipzig in 1809 as professor of history and at the same time had become a member of the prince's college . After he had given up this position in 1819, he was a full honorary professor of philosophy. Wieland also took part in the organizational tasks of the Leipzig University and was rector of the Alma Mater in the winter semesters 1810/11, 1812/13, 1814/15, 1816/17 .
