Ernst Klesper

Ernst Günter Klesper (born December 6, 1927 in Cologne ; † January 27, 2017 in Bergisch Gladbach ) was a German chemist and university professor at RWTH Aachen University .

Klesper studied at the Universities of Kiel and Hamburg and received his doctorate in 1954 under Hans Bode in Hamburg. In 1973 he completed his habilitation at the University of Freiburg under Hans-Joachim Cantow . Klesper was part of the time with Alsoph Henry Corwin at Johns Hopkins University . In 1979 he accepted a call to RWTH Aachen University, where he held the chair for macromolecular chemistry as a full professor until his retirement.

Klesper discovered that carbon dioxide dissolved in a supercritical fluid is a good solvent for chiral columns in chromatography. He was one of the authors of Supercritical Fluid Chromatography.

In 1986 he was made an honorary doctorate from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro .
