Ernst Linck

Ernst Linck (born October 14, 1874 in Windisch , † June 29, 1935 in Bern ) was a Swiss painter .

After an apprenticeship in Zurich as a decorative painter from 1889 to 1890, he first worked as a figure painter in several Swiss cities. After two study trips to Italy in 1894 and 1899, he settled in Bern, where he opened his own painting school, which he ran until 1912. In addition, from 1904 he taught life drawing at the arts and crafts school. His students there were among others Max Böhlen and Fred Stauffer .

Linck was a representative of the "Bern School" led by Ferdinand Hodler , which also included Traugott Senn , Adolf Tièche , Emil Cardinaux , Eduard Boss , Emil Prochaska (1874–1948) and Max Eugen Brack (1878–1950).

Originally coming from Art Nouveau , Linck in Bern was strongly influenced by the work of Ferdinand Hodler. His paintings often show patriotic folk scenes.

Linck also created some works of church painting ( wall painting , but also glass windows). He was also called in repeatedly as a restorer; Among other things, he is responsible for painting the historic Bern fountain .

His son is the sculptor Walter Linck .
