Ernst Nagel (theologian)

Ernst Josef Nagel (born November 3, 1931 in Cologne , † June 13, 2001 in Bardowick ) was a Catholic theologian and military chaplain .

Life's work

Ernst Nagel received the 1959 sacrament of holy orders and was later a researcher and adviser to the office manager in the Catholic Military Episcopate . He received his doctorate in theology in 1971 and in social sciences (Dr. rer. Soc.) In 1973 . From 1974 until his retirement in 1995 he taught as a professor for Catholic theology with special emphasis on social sciences and social ethics at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg .

From its founding in 1978 until his retirement in 1995, Nagel was director of the Institute for Theology and Peace in Hamburg . In his series of publications he published many articles on the peace ethic tradition of the Catholic Church as well as on current issues of peacekeeping, especially after the end of the East-West conflict .
