Ernst Upholsterer

Ernst Polsterer (born February 26, 1887 ; † May 4, 1945 ) was an Austrian mill owner in Enzersdorf an der Fischa and a fire department functionary.

Life

At the age of 16 he joined the Enzersdorf an der Fischa volunteer fire department . In 1909 he was elected captain. In 1914 Ernst Polsterer was elected commander of the Schwechat District Fire Brigade Association and in 1915 he was sent to the committee of the Lower Austrian Fire Brigade Association in Schwechat. From 1915 to 1939, upholsterer held various positions in the state fire brigade association . From 1912 to 1931 he was cashier, from 1922 to 1931 deputy state fire brigade commander.

In 1931, Polsterer was elected as the successor to the late Carl Jukel as the state fire brigade commander. His deputy was Franz Bauer from Wiener Neustadt, who also became a treasurer.

From 1929 to 1939 he was also the editor of the communications of the Lower Austrian Fire Brigade Association , the predecessor of today's body of the State Fire Brigade Association BrandAus .

Ernst Polsterer's main work was the establishment and establishment of the fire department technical school in Wiener Neustadt as the predecessor of today's state fire department school in Tulln. The school opened in March 1933. As early as September 1933, it was under his leadership that the state fire brigade association decided to remain politically neutral and forbid fire brigade members to participate in political events.

In total, Polsterer worked in the voluntary fire and rescue service for 36 years. In August 1939, Polsterer resigned from his position as state fire brigade commander due to the regime at that time. On May 4, 1945, he died after a short, serious illness.

The Lower Austrian Fire Brigade Association put Ernst Polsterer on a memorial plaque on the fire station of the volunteer fire brigade Enzersdorf an der Fischa.

He was also Vice President of the Agricultural Products Exchange in Vienna and held the professional title of Kommerzialrat .
