Ernst Rau (fencer)
Ernst Rau (born January 4, 1927 in Quiigart ; † May 2, 2012 in Auersmacher ) was a German fencer who competed for the Saarland .
Career
Ernst Rau took part in the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki for Saarland . He competed with both the foil and the saber in the individual and team competition, but did not get beyond the first round in any competition.
Rau fought at SV Saar 05 Saarbrücken and was considered the best Saarland saber fencer during his active time. In 1975 he replaced his Olympic team-mate Karl Bach as a coach at TuS 1860 Neunkirchen .
