Ernst Schmitthelm
The company Ernst Schmitthelm based in Heidelberg was a metal processing company which was restructured after buying the Günther Group and sold to the company Stumpp + Schüle.
Schmitthelm was known in the 1970s and 1980s for the production of springs that were used in motorsport vehicles.
history
The company was founded around 1931. Ernst Schmitthelm GmbH was taken over by the Günther Group in 1999. After the takeover, the company was rebuilt and parts of the production were relocated to Nové Zámky in Slovakia . In 2007, production was completely relocated to Nové Zámky and the plant in Heidelberg-Pfaffengrund was closed. In 2011, the Günther Group sold the Schmitthelm Group to Stumpp + Schüle GmbH based in Beuren . Products
The company supplied many vehicle manufacturers, such as Porsche and Ferrari, with springs that were installed in well-known and successful racing cars. Porsche equipped racing cars such as the 935/78 "Moby Dick" , 936 , 924 Carrera GTP , 956 and 962 and Ferrari the 312 Formula 1 and sports car prototypes and the 126C2 with Schmitthelm springs. Most of the vehicles equipped in this way had a Schmitthelm logo on the body.
