Ernst Schultz ( Ernst Ludvig Emanuel Schultz ; born May 15, 1879 in Horsens , † June 20, 1906 in Roskilde-Fjord ) was a Danish sprinter who won an Olympic bronze medal in 1900.

Schultz was an accountant by profession. As a member of the Copenhagen FF (later Copenhagen IF ) association , he participated in the national championships of Denmark, where between 1896 and 1900 the unusual distance of 150 meters was completed. After he reached third place in 1898, he was even able to win the championship title in 1899 and, when he participated again, came second in 1900.

The 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris were the sporting highlight for Schultz. He only took part in the 400-meter run , where he was one of 15 participants, including eight Americans . In his preliminary run, however, he only had one US runner as an opponent, behind whom Schultz was able to achieve second place and thus qualified for the final run. In the final, with originally six participants, Schultz was the only runner who was not an American.

The final competition was held on Sunday July 15th. This caused difficulties for some US athletes because their beliefs forbade them to do any sport on a Sunday. The organizers basically had no understanding of the wishes of many US athletes who did not want to compete on a Sunday, so that finally three runners, Dixon Boardman , Harry Lee and William Moloney , did not take part in the final run. With only three runners in the final, Schultz was sure of third place. However, the gap to his two US opponents was enormous.

Note: With the exception of the time of the winner, the running times are estimated as there was no time measurement for those placed. With them, the gap to the winner or the first place was determined with a length specification.

In 1902, Schultz drew attention to himself again in terms of sport. After moving to the club Hellerup IF , he participated again in the national championships of Denmark and took third place over 100 m.

Schultz died at the age of 27.
