Ernst Frederik Wilhelm von der Recke (born August 14, 1848 in Copenhagen , † December 2, 1933 in Ålsgårde on Zealand ) was a Danish poet and playwright .

life and work

Ernst von der Recke studied chemistry , wrote the successful drama Bertran de Born (1873) and then devoted himself entirely to literature. This was followed by the dramas Kong Liuvigild og hans Sønner ("King Liuvigild us his sons", 1878), Archilochos (1878), Knud og Magnus ("Knud and Magnus", 1881), Hertuginden af ​​Burgund ("The Duchess of Burgundy", 1891) and the opera text by Frau Jeanna (1891). His poetry collections ( Lyric Poems , 1876; Small Poems , 1883; Scattered Flowers , 1885; Old and New Poems to Eine , 1889; Mixed Poems , 1890; New Poems , 1900; etc.) show a rich lyrical streak and great versatility.

Recke was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature a total of nine times between 1911 and 1930 .
