The Erotic Museum (also: Erotik Museum , Erotisch Museum ) is an erotic museum in Amsterdam-Centrum . On four floors with films, objects, pictures, books and erotic postcards from all over the world, it wants to offer an insight into “the art of seduction”. The museum is located in the red light district in downtown Amsterdam, also called De Wallen .

history

The museum opened in the 1980s and has been part of the Janot Entertainment Group (JEG), an organization of amusement companies in the field of erotic entertainment , since 1996 . According to JEG, eroticism is "as old as humanity and can be found anywhere in the world".

The museum is located in a listed ( Rijksmonument ) former warehouse (built in 1685). At the top of the facade you can see an old stone slab with the sentence: God is my castle . On the second floor there are paintings on the walls of Snow White and the seven dwarfs , which cannot be shown in a Disney theme park, according to the information page of "amsterdam.info". Also a machine with the most unusual condoms. Photos can be taken here, including of the facade, which is generally not permitted in the streets of the red light district.

The various exhibitions are presented on four floors. Figures made of porcelain , clay and drawings by John Lennon and Jan Cremer , paintings and lithographs , among others , can be seen on the ground floor and first floor . Erotic postcards, photos and books are on display on the second floor. There is also a Kaboutertuin (something like "Heinzelmännchen" - or "Kobold-Garten") with pornographic cartoons . An impression of the Amsterdam red light district on the third floor, also called kinky , is shown by SM articles.

The Erotic Museum at 54 Oudezijds Achterburgwal should not be confused with the nearby Sex Museum (Damrak 18).
