In Japan, there are many sex museums called Hihokan (House of Hidden Treasures) all over the country . These are found in amusement centers and are mostly run by individuals (not organizations). The first museums appeared in the 1960s; many closed in the 1990s through 2000s.

• The Venusberg Erotic Art Museum is a virtual erotic museum, founded in 1997 by a German collector and operated as a paysite .
• The Vintage Erotica Museum is a virtual erotic museum that has been online since 2007 and is operated as a paysite.
• The private DMK Erotic Art Museum is based on a collection by Roger Peyrefitte , Paris and was founded in 1982 by the German art collector DM Klinger. It is not open to the public. The collection with more than 4000 rare individual items, pictures, sculptures and historical documents of all kinds is offered for sale.
• The Virtual Museum of Erotic Art was created as a thesis in the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts , Poland . The site is based on Adobe Flash and is available in English and Polish. It is a collection of 69 erotic works by prominent artists annotated on the basis of eroticism .
