Ikaho ( Japanese 伊 香 保 町 , - machi ) was a community in Kitagunma-gun in Gunma Prefecture .

geography

Ikaho is located between the valley of the Tone , where the center of Shibukawa is, and the over 1,400 meter high Haruna Mountain and Lake Haruna at its feet.

history

Ikaho was created in 1889 through the merger of the villages Ikaho, Mizusawa ( 水 沢 ) and Yunakago ( 湯中子 ).

In 2006 it became part of the city of Shibukawa, as did the villages of Akagi , Kitatachibana , Komochi and Onogami .

Attractions

The Ikaho Onsen , whose existence has been handed down as early as the 7th century, is known nationwide . Numerous hotels, inns and souvenir shops have settled in Ikaho for this reason. The spring is located south of the town center behind the Ikaho shrine, to which a 360-step stone staircase from 1567 leads up from the town. Several golf courses have also been created in the area.

The Mizusawa-dera, a temple of the Tendai-shū , with a history of more than a thousand years, is located a few kilometers to the southeast and is part of the Bandō Sanjūsankasho , 33 temples dedicated to Kannon , which are located on a pilgrimage route through eastern Japan.

Ikaho is also known for mizusawa udon , the noodles are made from the wheat grown in the area .

South of the town center is on the Monokikiyama ( 物 聞 山 ) the Ikaho Rink ( 伊 香u リ ン ク , Ikaho rinku , German "Ice rink Ikaho").

traffic

The Ikaho cable car ( 伊 香 保 ロ ー プ ウ ェ イ , Ikaho Ropeway ) connects the Hototogisu ground station with the Miharashi station ( 見 晴 , "view") on Monokikiyama. It overcomes a height difference of 182 meters.

Prefecture Road 33 leads from downtown Shibukawa in the east through the town to Lake Haruna in the west. From it branches off to the southeast as the Jōzō-Sanzan-Panoramastrasse ( 上 毛 三 山 パ ノ ラ マ 街道 , Jōzō-sanzan-panorama-kaidō ); Jōzō-Sanzan are the three largest mountains in the area: the Akagi in the east, the Haruna in the west and the Myogi in the southwest.
