A documentary soap produced by Tresor TV Produktions GmbH has grown up on trial . The first season has been broadcast on RTL Television since June 3, 2009 . In the course of the program, young people who are considering becoming parents themselves are entrusted with children - from infants to teenagers. In this way the teenagers should experience what it means to take responsibility as parents. The real parents of the babies, along with a team of experts, are nearby to intervene if necessary. The aim of the program is to make these and other young people aware of the problem of rash teenage pregnancies by making them aware of the difficulties and problems that can arise with a child. The format is based on the British BBC documentary "BBC Baby Borrowers".
criticism
Apparently some of the children are separated from their parents for a long time during the filming. The Federal Chamber of Psychotherapists (BPtK), the Child Protection Association and other organizations protested massively against this approach in the run-up to the broadcast. They argue that babies and toddlers are massively overwhelmed by separation from their parents, which in the long term could lead to severe psychological damage. They consider the actions of the broadcaster and the production company to be irresponsible. The Federal Chamber of Psychotherapists accuses the broadcaster RTL of driving “its TV business with questionable show experiments.” In their opinion, the youth welfare offices should check whether there is a child welfare risk . According to the federal director of the child protection association, Paula Honkanen-Schoberth , RTL Television accepts disruptions of attachment . The family network , the Federal Association for Prevention & Prophylaxis and the German Child Protection Association are running online petitions against the broadcast of the program. According to the advertising time marketer IP Deutschland , some advertisers also withdrew their commercials in the broadcasting environment of “Adults on Trial”.
After viewing the first double episode, the Commission for Youth Media Protection (KJM) considered it to be legally permissible, but “ethically and pedagogically irresponsible”. In early 2010, the KJM criticized in particular episode 8 of the series, in which a 13- and a 15-year-old teenager smoked and drank beer, as a violation of the youth protection act. "In addition, the young test parents would have exceeded the personal limits of their young protégés 'drastically' several times, which, according to the KJM, could have a disorienting effect on young viewers." The broadcaster escapes punishment, however, because the voluntary self-control television to a different assessment than the KJM had come and released the scenes.
The Cologne Public Prosecutor's Office received over 50 reports against those responsible at the station and the participating parents.
