Erwin Dahinden

Erwin Dahinden-Girod (born July 15, 1957 in Heiligkreuz LU ; † December 7, 2012 in Villars-sur-Glâne ) was a Swiss military diplomat and lawyer.

Growing up on a farm, Dahinden studied law, journalism and communication science in Freiburg im Üechtland and Geneva and worked as a student on the editorial team of the Entlebucher Anzeiger . In 1990 he received his doctorate in international law . During his studies he became a member of the Catholic student union Teutonia in the CV . Later he also received an honorary membership of the AKV Neu-Romania .

Dahinden had worked for the Defense Department in the field of international relations since 1987 and represented it at international military conferences and negotiations. As a militia officer of the infantry, Dahinden was in command of the 42 fusilier battalion. Since 2006, he has headed the Swiss military attachés as chief international relations in the defense department . In particular, he campaigned for Switzerland to become more involved in peacebuilding with military means.

Erwin Dahinden was married and had two daughters. In December 2012 he died of cancer.
