Erwin Hintze

Erwin Hintze (born December 31, 1876 in Strasbourg , realm of Alsace-Lorraine ; † August 1, 1931 in Breslau , province of Lower Silesia ) was a German art historian .

Erwin Hintze was the son of the mineralogist Carl Hintze (1851-1916). From 1897 to 1901 he studied art history and classical archeology at the University of Breslau . Since October 1, 1901, he worked as a research assistant under Karl Masner (1858-1936) at the Silesian Museum of Applied Arts and Antiquities in Wroclaw. In 1913 he was appointed professor. From 1926 he was in charge of the castle museum set up in the Wroclaw City Palace, and from 1929 until his death he was director of the Wroclaw City Museum.

His area of ​​interest was the history of the arts and crafts , especially goldsmithing and pewter foundries .
