Erwin Korb

Erwin Korb (born March 15, 1928 in Oberstein ; † September 11, 2017 in Idar-Oberstein ) was a German social democratic politician .

Life

On April 13, 1944, Korb started as a candidate for the senior service at the Idar-Oberstein city administration. In October 1964 he was elected full-time alderman, in March 1970 he was promoted to the office of mayor. After the mayor at the time, Wilfried Wittmann, was voted out of office in September 1974, he continued to run his business for more than two years. On January 28, 1977 he was finally mayor, he held this office until 1991. Korb was married and had two children.

Korb was a member of the SPD and numerous associations in his hometown.

The largest project of his tenure was the construction of the Nahe High Road, in which the river Nahe was built over by the federal road 41 and which attracted attention nationwide. The Nahe was built over a length of 1875 meters, the project cost 300 million DM and was completed in 1986.

In 1988 Korb signed the first sponsorship between a municipality and a military facility with the artillery school of the Bundeswehr . On the occasion of this special relationship, the Bundespost brought out a first day cover.
