Erwin Nigg (born September 7, 1954 in Gersau ) is a Swiss musician , composer and former politician ( FDP ). Nigg taught as a high school teacher at the Kantonsschule Kollegium Schwyz until 2017 , where he was Vice-Rector from 2003 to 2012.

Life

After studying at the University of Zurich (musicology, modern German literature, linguistics and literary criticism) and at the Zurich Music Academy (conducting), Nigg studied and taught for two years at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati . There he obtained in 1995 with his dissertation "An Analysis of Jacob Druckman's Works for Wind Ensemble 'Engram' (1982), 'Paen' (1986), 'In Memoriam Vincent Persichetti' (1987) and 'With Bells On' (1993 ) "the doctorate .

From 1981 to 2017, Nigg taught at the Kantonsschule Kollegium Schwyz as a music teacher, nine years of which also served as prorector, and headed the school's ensembles. Parallel to his full-time activity, he conducted various wind orchestras and music school ensembles. Nigg also works as an expert at music festivals and exams, as a speaker and guest conductor. He is a member of various international music organizations.

Nigg was a member of the Schwyz Cantonal Council from 1988 to 1991 and from 2000 to 2008 , where he represented the Gersau district. He was also a member of the party leadership of the FDP in the canton of Schwyz for many years.
