Erwin Pochmarski

Erwin Pochmarski (born July 14, 1943 in Leoben ) is an Austrian archaeologist .

Erwin Pochmarski studied Classical Archeology and Classical Philology at the University of Graz and received his doctorate in 1969 on the subject of The Image of Dionysus in the Round Sculpture of the Classical Period in Greece . Since 1970 he has been a university assistant at the Institute for Classical Archeology. In 1983 he completed his habilitation in Classical Archeology and was appointed Associate Professor in 1997. Pochmarski started from work on the iconography of the god Dionysus and from copy-critical investigations into the Greco-Roman ideal sculpture, but subsequently dealt more and more with studies of the chronology of provincial Roman sculpture in the provinces of Noricum and Pannonia. Within the projectCorpus Signorum Imperii Romani he is responsible for the volumes Flavia Solva II-IV, in the context of the corpus of ancient sarcophagus reliefs for the volume Pannonia. In 2008 his students and colleagues brought him a commemorative publication entitled Thiasos , which also contains a list of publications .
