Erythronium rostratum is a species of the tooth lily genus( Erythronium ).
features
The onions are 10 to 20 millimeters in size and egg-shaped. The leaves are 5 to 18 inches long. The leaf blade is green, irregularly spotted, elliptical-lanceolate to ovate or elliptical, more or less flat, with entire margins and frosted. The shaft is 3 to 10 centimeters long. The inflorescence is single-flowered.
The flowers stay erect during the flowering period. The petals are 20 to 34 millimeters in size, lanceolate and most widely spread out at flowering time. They are colored yellow, the underside of the leaves is red-pink or orange. The insides have pronounced and conspicuous little ears, which almost enclose the stamens. The stamens are 13 to 17 millimeters in size. The stamens are lanceolate and yellow. The pollen is also yellow. The stylus are 8 to 11 millimeters in size, greenish yellow, persistent and swollen towards the end with the scar. They form a beak on the capsules. The lobes of the scar are 1 millimeter in size, erect and short. The capsules are 15 to 25 millimeters long without a beak. At maturity they are erect on the inflorescence axes which are curved downwards and are ellipsoidal to ovate. Its tip is long beaked.
The flowering time is in spring.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24. Triploid specimens have also been found on the western border of the distribution area.
Occurrence
Erythronium rostratum is found in the US states of Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. The species grows in forests and is often found in floodplains and along rivers at altitudes of 0 to 500 meters.
