The producer group for slaughter cattle in the Osnabrück area (EGO) was founded in 1969 as a registered cooperative within the meaning of the Market Structure Act and is a member of the Weser-Ems cooperative association . The meat obtained in the connected slaughterhouse is marketed through licensed Eichenhof shops.

history

The cooperative was founded in Osnabrück on November 12, 1969 as a registered cooperative with a limited obligation to make additional contributions . The headquarters were moved to Georgsmarienhütte in 1971 . The statutory purpose is to promote the acquisition and economy of its members through a joint business operation.

In 1974, the producer group for quality piglets in the Osnabrück eG (EGF) was founded, whose 163 (2017) member farms produce around 500,000 piglets annually, which are marketed to the EGO members. EGO has been involved in the sausage manufacturer Kinnius in Osnabrück since 1990. In 1993 the merger took place with Raiffeisen-Viehverwertung eG for the old district Wittlage , Bohmte, 1997 with the producer group for cattle and meat Minden-Ravensberg - Lippe eV, Herford . In 2005 the cooperative, together with the farmer and haulier Wilhelm Vinke, took over Eichenhof Bauernmarkt GmbH and its subsidiary Eichenhof Bauern- und Schlachtviehmarkt GmbH & Co.KG and renamed EGO Schlachthof Georgsmarienhütte Verwaltungs-GmbH and EGO Schlachthof Georgsmarienhütte GmbH & Co. KG renamed. Since 2007, all piglet producers have taken part in regular animal health monitoring by the Animal Health Agency, in which the EGF is a partner. In 2017, Vinke & Sohn GmbH & Co. KG grew.

At the end of 2017, the cooperative had a total of 270 members who held 1,418 shares. Membership is restricted to owners of farms that produce cattle for slaughter. Each member must subscribe at least two, at most ten, shares of 2,500 euros each, which bear interest of at least three percent.

The first chairman of the EGO, Karl-Heinz Hüggelmeyer held this office until 1998, his successor, Georg Dietemeyer until 2019; since then Anne Hillebrand has been chairwoman. Franz Hengstmann was chairman of the EGF until 2007, and Andreas Dauwe has been chairman since then.
