The Erzgebirgsmuseum is a museum in Annaberg-Buchholz .

The presentation shows exhibits of the Erzgebirge folk art (in particular carving and lace work or trimmings ) and gives an insight into the history of the city of Annaberg and silver mining in the region. The museum also owns a work from the workshop of Lucas Cranach the Younger from 1572 and a large collection of valuable pewter vessels. Attached to the museum is the Im Gößner visitor mine .

history

The facility was founded in 1887 as a museum of Erzgebirge antiquities and was initially housed in the town hall of Annaberg. The presentation was based on private collections and donations from citizens of Annaberg. Due to a rapid expansion of the exhibition, the current domicile opposite St. Anne's Church was moved into in 1891 . In 1905, on the initiative of the Erzgebirgsverein , which carried the institution ideally and financially until 1927, it was renamed the Erzgebirgsmuseum . The profile of the museum was largely shaped by the local researcher and first director Emil Finck .

During construction work in the area around the museum in 1992, an extensive tunnel system from the early days of Annaberg silver mining around 1500 was discovered and opened to the public in August 1995.

Documents and testimonials from the history of the city and the Upper Ore Mountains are shown. Further topics are mining and sacred art in the late Middle Ages. Products from the craft of potters, pewter casters and trimmers can be seen, as well as bobbin lace, carvings and weapons. Bourgeois and rural lifestyle from earlier times are discussed, for example in a farmhouse parlor. "Barbara Uthmann - an Annaberger writes history" is the title of the permanent exhibition on Barbara Uthmann , which was redesigned in 2014 .
In the courtyard of the museum is the entrance to the former silver mine "Im Gößner". In a part of the former mine, the silver mining around 1500 can be seen under the old town.
