Josef Scheuren

Josef Scheuren, born Peter Joseph Scheuren (born April 30, 1898 in Königswinter-Oberdollendorf , † June 24, 1972 in Cologne ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

After attending elementary school and advanced training school, Scheuren completed an apprenticeship as a waiter in gastronomy. From 1916 to 1918 he took part in the First World War as a soldier . After the end of the war, he joined the trade union in 1919, worked in the operations department of the Cologne-Bonner Eisenbahnen AG and was chairman of the local staff and works council from 1925 to 1933. In addition, he was a board member of AOK Köln -Land and the Cologne health insurance association. From 1928 to 1931 he attended the free trade union seminar in Cologne. Here he continued his education with a degree in law and political science.

Scheuren was dismissed for political reasons after the National Socialists came to power and was initially unemployed. He worked as an office manager from 1935 and was an independent sales representative from 1936 to 1939. From 1939 to 1945 he took part in the Second World War as a soldier . At the end of the war he was taken prisoner.

After his release from captivity, Scheuren returned to the service of Cologne-Bonner Eisenbahnen AG, where he was appointed administrative director. He also acted as a special representative and honorary board member of the Pension Fund of German Railways and Trams. In addition, he was an honorary member of the main board of ÖTV and chairman of the Kreissparkasse Köln.

Scheuren was married to Sophia Breuer since 1921. He died in 1972 at the age of 74 in a Cologne hospital.

Political party

Scheuren joined the SPD in 1925 and was active in local politics in Brühl and the Cologne district during the Weimar Republic .

MP

Scheuren had been a council member of the Wesseling community and district council member of the Cologne district since 1946 . He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1953 to 1957 and from March 20, 1959, when he replaced the retired MP Alfred Gleisner , until 1965. He was always drawn into parliament via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Scheuren served as district administrator for the district of Cologne from 1948 to 1952.
