Joseph Hürten

Joseph Hürten (born June 29, 1899 in Brühl ; † May 15, 1977 ibid) was a German local politician and honorary district administrator ( CDU ).

Life and work

After attending school, Hürten completed a teacher training course and worked in this profession. From 1922 he was a teacher at the Clemens August School in Brühl, most recently as rector for 18 years . Hürten was elected to the city council for the center in 1933 and was a founding member of the CDU in Brühl in 1945.

He was married and had four children.

Public offices

From March 29, 1961 to November 27, 1969 he was district administrator of the former Cologne district. Hürten was also Mayor of Brühl from 1946 to 1947, from 1950 to 1956 and from 1958 to 1961 . In 1947 Hürten had to give up the office of mayor because the British occupation forces decreed that teachers were not allowed to exercise a political mandate.

Hürten was active in various committees of the district council of North Rhine-Westphalia .

Honors

On June 23, 1969, Hürten was made an honorary citizen of the city of Brühl. Joseph-Hürten-Straße in Brühl was named after him.
