Eduard Emil Finck (born November 10, 1856 in Mügeln , † March 31, 1922 in Annaberg ) was a German educator and a co-founder and first director of the Ancient and Ore Mountains Museum in Annaberg .

Life

After completing his basic education at a primary school, Finck attended the teachers' seminar in Oschatz until Easter 1877 . At first he worked as a teacher in Ostrau , but in 1880 he moved to the small town of Annaberg in the Ore Mountains, where he taught first as a teacher, later as a senior teacher, until March 31, 1922 at the community school. He remained unmarried throughout his life.

Emil Finck earned services as a local researcher. With his collecting activities for historical objects, documents and archival materials, he laid the foundation for two local history exhibitions, which took place in 1883 and 1885. In 1885 Finck co-founded the Association for the History of Annaberg and the Surrounding Area and in 1886 co-founded the Annaberg Ore Mountain Branch Association . On his initiative, the Museum of Ore Mountains Antiquities was founded on June 12, 1887 , and its first domicile was in the attic of the Annaberg town hall. In 1891 the company moved to the house opposite St. Anne's Church , which is still home to the Erzgebirge Museum today. On his initiative in 1905 there was a substantial expansion of the museum exhibits and the name was changed to the Erzgebirgsmuseum. The Royal Saxon Ministry entrusted him with the organization of the Annaberg City Archives. He was the author of numerous books and magazine articles (including in the communications of the Annaberger Geschichtsverein ) on the history of the city of Annaberg and its surroundings. In 1901 he dealt with the Annaberg bread order of Adam Ries . The rescue of the Frohnauer hammer from decay is u. a. attributed to his initiative.

A street in Annaberg-Buchholz has been named after Emil Finck since January 1991.
