It will be the same dumpa
Es wird scho glei dumpa is the title of an Austrian Christmas carol. The text was written by the Upper Austrian clergyman Anton Reidinger and published in 1884. Reidinger composed the text possibly as early as 1865 in Bad Ischl , when he was dealing with the Ischler nativity play of 1654.
The melody is based on the Marian song To love Mary is always my meaning ( GL 521). It is first handed down in the Paderborn hymn book from 1765, there, however, on the lyrics to the song My Heart Be Satisfied . The history of the melody goes back even further. The first line of the melody can be found in 1697 in the Mainz hymn book in the song O Jungfrau Maria . In 2012, the local history researcher Alfred Herrmüller from Krenglbach pointed out that Reidinger's contribution to the melody went beyond a mere arrangement, as he changed the melody, added the closing line “Hey, heia, sleep siaß, dearly child” and added a second voice .
The song was also published with a four-part setting with flute, clarinets, violins, cello and bass in 1913 by Franz Friedrich Kohl and Josef Reiter in the new edition of the Echte Tiroler Lieder collection (Vol. 1, Leipzig 1913, p. 24). Kohl noted that he had taken over the song, the prelude and the instrumental accompaniment from the "old carol singer " Eduard Strobl († 1914) from Hopfgarten . Viktor Zack, in turn, took over the song from Kohl and published it in the collection of old crib and shepherd songs (Graz 1918, p. 16).
