Anton Reidinger

Anton Reidinger (born April 29, 1839 in Krenglbach , Upper Austria , † December 25, 1912 in Obernberg am Inn ) was an Austrian Catholic clergyman and dialect poet.

Live and act

Anton Reidinger was born on April 29, 1839 as the son of a school principal in the Upper Austrian municipality of Krenglbach. He received music lessons at an early age and was a choirboy in St. Florian , as well as a student of Anton Bruckner . He then attended the Stiftsgymnasium Kremsmünster , which he graduated in 1859, and then studied theology in Linz. In 1863 he was ordained a priest . He was pastor in various Upper Austrian places and from 1876 pastor in Riedau . From 1891 he was temporarily retired and spiritual with the Tertiary Sisters ( Sisters of Our Lady of Mount Carmel ; Sisters of Mary of the Carmel for short ) in Linz before he was reactivated in 1893.

From 1893 to 1906 he was pastor in Eggerding , then in Obernberg. In addition, Reidinger was also dean of the Andorf and Altheim deans. He endeavored to renew the nativity play and singing and among other things created the text and at least partially the melody of the song Es wird scho glei dumpa . Reidinger died on the night of December 24th to 25th, 1912 two minutes after the start of the Christmas mass . In his dialect poems he often tried to emphasize the cheerful side of everyday life.
