The second priority area of the order is Bavaria (Province of Regensburg) with the Provincial Mother House in Regensburg . The order also works in Mityana , Uganda .

The sisters strive for the Carmelite ideal of abiding before God, but at the same time for apostolic activity for the needy.

history

The community was founded by Maria Böck (religious name Sister Theresia of St. Joseph) in 1861 when women from Riedau , Eferding and Linz , who already lived in the Carmelite spirituality, joined together to form an order. The order was initially named "Sisters of the Third Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel", in 1961 the order was renamed "Sisters of Mary of Mount Carmel".

The main task was initially to care for unsecured unemployed servants , job-seeking girls, children, the sick and the elderly. To help them, girls' homes, old people's homes, children's homes and industrial schools were founded. By 1900 there were already 14 branches in Austria.

In 1920 sisters came to Germany for the first time after being asked by the Bavarian Carmelites. Germany has had its own province since 1940. The parent company in Regensburg was completely destroyed in 1945 and then rebuilt. The sisters' branches were founded in Flossenbürg , Hainsacker , Markelhofen and Flintsbach am Inn , among others . In Konnersreuth , the Theresianum monastery , desired by Therese Neumann and financed by donations, was inaugurated in 1963 and handed over to the Sisters of Mary.

In Austria, the Sisters of Mary are primarily known for their Kneipp spa homes in the Kneipp spa towns of Bad Kreuzen and Bad Mühllacken , as well as for their parament workshop .
