Viktor Zack
Viktor Zack (born April 13, 1854 in Vordernberg , Styria , † January 26, 1939 in Graz ) was an Austrian teacher, choir director and folk song researcher .
Viktor Zack did a great job as a collector of folk songs from the Austrian federal states. In his research he often worked with the Styrian folklorist Viktor Geramb . In 1917 he published the "Styrian songbook for elementary schools". A year later the book about "Old Nativity and Shepherd Songs" was published. He published the collected “Yodelers and folk songs from Upper Styria Murtal” in 1927. Many well-known Alpine Christmas carols come from his collections, such as “ Es wird scho glei dumpa ” and “Hiaz is da rough winter da”.
Viktor Zack was also active in the singer association movement. He is buried in the St. Leonhard Cemetery in Graz .
A street in Vordernberg was named after him. The Styrian Singing Association still awards the Viktor Zack Medal in bronze or silver to choir directors with special merits.
