Eschwege Lexicon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The published by the Historical Society of the Werra country appeared Eschwege lexicon listed on 848 pages in two-column set a variety of terms, important events and monuments, all roads in Eschwege , including explanations and articles on historical and contemporary historical personalities from politics, sports, business and society. The texts are not always strictly sober, but also contain short anecdotes . An unchanged second edition of the reference work was reprinted in the year it was first published .

The lexicon is based on information about the city, its surroundings and its history, which the author Herbert Fritsche has collected for decades and recorded on slips of paper and index cards . Nine other named researchers took part in the creation of the lexicon, but their contributions are not specially marked. The editorial work was done by the historian and Eschweg city archivist Karl Kollmann , chairman of the Historical Society of the Werraland and of the Eschwege History Association in the Association for Hessian History and Regional Studies .

The review of the information media for libraries highlighted the noticeably high proportion of personal articles, but criticized the lack of references in articles and a summarizing bibliography.

At the official presentation of the Eschwege Lexicon in May 2015 in the Eschweg City Hall, the author Herbert Fritsche learned from his own work that he was included in the list of honorary citizens of the city of Eschwege on the same day. Karl Kollmann had brought the entry on Fritsche and the list of honorary citizens up to date in the final editing of the lexicon.
