history

The Werra-Rundschau was founded on January 1, 1948 by publisher and editor-in-chief Hans Albert Kluthe (1904–1970). The WR is the successor newspaper to the Eschweger Tageblatt, which was founded in 1826. Max Klier and Alfred Nagel were among the early editors. Kluthe's great merits were recognized by being awarded the Federal Cross of Merit (1959) and his efforts to deepen Franco-German cooperation through his appointment as Knight of the French Legion of Honor (1964). In 1969 he received the Fugger Medal for outstanding services to the journalism. From 1952 to 1970 he was President of the Association of German Magazine Publishers . After the early death of Hans Albert Kluthe on December 13, 1970, the then 22-year-old Peter Kluthe, son of the late publisher, took over the publishing house. He was the publisher of the WR until his 65th birthday in May 2013. In 1992 the Werra-Rundschau changed from an evening newspaper to a morning newspaper. Since then the WR has been printed in Kassel. In 2009 the WR changed its leaf structure and moved the local part forward. Since July 2013 the WR has appeared with a new title header. On November 13, 2014, the Werra-Rundschau relocated its publishing house from the Eschweger Schulberg to the city center. There the office shares the ground floor in a partnership with the Sparkasse Werra-Meißner. The advertising department, sales and accounting are on the first floor, the editorial office is on the second floor.

Chief editor

The first editor-in-chief was the publisher Hans Albert Kluthe himself. After his death, long-time editor Alfred Nagel took over the content management on January 1, 1971. On April 1, 1989, Karl Kramer succeeded Alfred Nagel on the editorial board. From 2000 to 2008 Dieter Preuß was in charge of the editorial department, from January 1, 2008 to June 30, 2014 Dieter Salzmann was editor-in-chief. Tobias Stück has been heading the editorial team since July 1, 2014. Martin Meister has been the advertising manager since September 2016.
