Hans Albert Kluthe

Hans Albert Kluthe (born July 15, 1904 in Schwelm ; † December 13, 1970 in Eschwege ) was a German journalist and publisher .

Life

Kluthe, the son of a textile manufacturer, attended secondary school in Schwelm and studied law and political science at the universities of Munich , Berlin and Cologne from 1923 to 1928 . Kluthe worked as a freelancer for liberal newspapers and magazines, including as a university reporter for the Vossische Zeitung . From 1928 to 1934 he worked in the legal department of the Reichsbund der Wirtschaftsleiter . His intention to take over the editor-in-chief of the association's body and the management of the socio-political department of this institution failed during the time of National Socialism . Kluthe then worked as the district manager of the Hanseatic Insurance Company for two years, but fled to England in October 1936. There he worked as a language teacher and freelance journalist for various daily newspapers. Together with Karl Spiecker, he published the book “The True Germany”.

After the end of the Second World War, Kluthe published the magazine “Outlook”, which later appeared in Germany under the title “Neue Auslese”. In 1947 he took over the "Eschweger Tageblatt", which appeared shortly afterwards under the new title " Werra-Rundschau ". He was co-owner of the Frankfurter Societätsdruckerei , which among other things printed the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung . Kluthe was politically active as president of the Association of German Magazine Publishers and the International Press Institute as well as a member of the German Press Council . From 1958 to 1970 he was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation .

At the time of the Weimar Republic , Kluthe belonged to the Reich leadership of the Reich Association of Democratic Students and the Reich Association of Young Democrats as well as the cartel of republican students from Germany and German-Austria . He was also a member of the Reich Party Committee and the board of the Cologne-Aachen election association of the German Democratic Party , which was renamed the German State Party in 1930 . Until 1933 he was also a board member of the Young Liberals International . Kluthe was Vice President of the Liberal World Union and Honorary Chairman of the German section of the Liberal World Union.

Awards

In 1959 he received the Federal Cross of Merit , in 1964 he was made a knight of the French Legion of Honor . In 1969 he was awarded the Fugger Medal.
