Master of San San Martino alla Palma: Madonna and Child , Florence, around 1330

The master of San Martino alla Palma ( Italian Maestro di San Martino alla Palma) is a painter who worked in Florence in Tuscany in Italy at the beginning of the 14th century . The artist, who is not known by name, got his emergency name from his altarpiece, painted around 1320, which he created for the church of San Martino alla Palma , a place in the immediate vicinity of Florence. As the left side altar of the church, it shows a Madonna enthroned with child surrounded by angels on a gold background.

It is believed that the master of San Martino all Palma was a pupil or collaborator in the workshop of Bernardo Daddi , the early Italian Renaissance painter working in Florence . Both paint pictures in a smaller format, which are intended to inspire the viewer to sympathize; these are in contrast to the larger-format, monumental pictures of their Florentine contemporaries, such as those of the pioneer of the Italian Renaissance Giotto and the Maso di Banco, which was influenced by Giotto .
