The Escola Portuguesa Ruy Cinatti - Centro de Ensino e Língua Portuguesa (EPRC, German  Portuguese School Ruy Cinatti - Center for Education and the Portuguese Language ) is the Portuguese school in Dili , the capital of East Timor . It is located in the Balide district ( Suco Santa Cruz , Vera Cruz administrative office ), framed by Rua 12 de Novembro , Rua Santa Cruz and Rua Dom José Ribeiro .

Overview

The school was founded in 2002 as Escola Portuguesa de Díli . In 2009 it was named Escola Portuguesa de Díli - Centro de Ensino e Língua Portuguesa and in 2011 its current name. It is named after the Portuguese poet Ruy Cinatti , who often dealt with East Timor in his work and lived here at times during the colonial period.

The school has (as of 2015) 871 students in 35 classes, starting with pre-school up to upper secondary level. 87.1% of the students are East Timorese, 9.5% are Portuguese and 3.4% are of other nationality. 800 families are on the waiting list for school.

The school system and the curriculum are based on the Portuguese model. Because of the time difference, some of the standardized exams must therefore be completed at night. Only Portuguese is spoken. The monthly school fee is $ 15.

In March 2020, teachers and hundreds of students had to flee to the first floor from a sudden flood. The water wreaked havoc on the lower rooms. Including canteen, kitchen, laboratory, library and several classrooms. School operations had to be closed until the end of the semester. The pupils are to be taught via the Internet.
