Esganoso de Castelo de Paiva

Esganoso de Castelo de Paiva is a white wine variety . It is approved in the northern Portuguese district of Penafiel near Porto and is sporadically included in the white wines of Vinho Verde .

The high-yielding variety produces wines that tend to oxidize quickly . The variety should not be confused with the Esganoso de Lima variety .

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is very woolly, whitish-haired and has a strong crimson tinge. The young leaves are hairy with white wool and colored red on the underside of the leaf.
  • The medium-sized leaves (see also the article leaf shape ) are five-lobed and deeply indented. The stem bay is lyren-shaped open. The blade is bluntly serrated. The convex teeth are medium-sized compared to the grape varieties. The leaf surface (also called blade) is blistered and rough.
  • The cone-shaped grape is medium-sized, shouldered and dense berries. The elliptical, short berries are medium-sized and green-yellow in color. The skin of the juicy berry is thick.
