Esganoso de Lima

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Esganoso de Lima is a white wine variety . The white grape variety is approved in the northern Portuguese district of Lima near Ponte de Lima , in the Douro region and in Minho and is sporadically used in the wines of Vinho Verde .

The high-yielding variety produces white wines that tend to oxidize quickly . The variety must not be confused with the Esganoso de Castelo de Paiva variety . Esganoso de Lima is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphroditic flowers and is therefore self-fruiting. In viticulture , the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yield is avoided.

Synonyms: Esganoso de Ponte de Lima. The origin of the grape variety is unknown.
