Eskilsø is a Danish island in the Roskildefjord , which cuts the north of the island of Zealand . With an area of ​​1.39 km², the island has only 6 inhabitants (January 1, 2020). Eskilsø is owned by the nature conservation foundation Erick og Ingrid Struckmanns Naturfredningsfond. On the island are the remains of the monastery church of Eskilsø monastery from the 12th century. Administratively, Eskilsø belongs to the parish of Selsø ( Selsø Sogn in Harde Horns Herred in what was then Frederiksborg Amt ). From 1970 it belonged to the Skibby municipality , which was merged into the Frederikssund municipality in the Hovedstaden region with the municipal reform on January 1, 2007 .
