The Esmeralda Bank is an underwater volcano about 37 kilometers west of the island Tinian of the Northern Mariana Islands in the Pacific and is located at the southern end of the Mariana volcanic chain. It has three summit cones that lie along a north-south line. The highest peak is about 43 meters below the surface of the sea and has a caldera about 3 kilometers wide and several small secondary cones. There were frequent discoloration of water and the smell of sulfur compounds, which were attributed either to small outbreaks or to solfatarian activity

Last known activity

On May 26, 1987, a pilot observed violently bubbling and discolored water there.
