Life

Youth and education

Esperança António Cau was born on May 14, 1965 in Lourenço Marques, the capital of the Portuguese colony of Mozambique, as one of six children in very simple circumstances. Her parents, who were farmers, struggled to feed the children. In addition, Cau had suffered from chronic otitis media for years .

After completing primary school, Cau attended the Escola Secundária Estrela Vermelha in the Alto Maé district of the capital from 1978 to 1980 and lived temporarily in boarding school because the distance between the school and her house was too far. She then attended the Escola Industrial de Matola vocational school in Matola from 1981 to 1983 , where she studied electrical engineering for large companies. Due to very good grades, Cau received a scholarship to continue her training at the Escola Industrial Pedagógico in the northern Mozambican city of Nampula . In Nampula she completed her professional training with a specialization in power engineering between 1984 and 1986.

Foundation of Folha Verde

Originally, Cau had the intention to study abroad with the help of a scholarship. After she met Mário Fumo Bartolomeu Mangaze , she stayed in Mozambique and moved to Maputo with Mangaze in 1988, where she married him on September 2, 1989 and took his surname. At the same time, Mário Mangaze was appointed Chairman of the Mozambican Constitutional Court.

Esperança Mangaze discovered her love for plant decorations in their new home. After much hesitation, the couple bought a piece of land in the Maputo suburb of Matola, where Esperança Mangaze founded a floral decoration company called Folha Verde (English: Green Leaf). Today the company is one of the best known in the industry in the entire country. In addition, the event areas - in Matola and in Maputo's Jardim dos Namorados - are a popular place for events of all kinds.

Mangaze later founded an event company called Melina. She is also the owner of the magazine Noivas e Eventos (German: brides and events).
