Pictures by Esperanza Spierling on the occasion of the Marion Ermer Prize

Esperanza Spierling's work deals with images on the border between reduced photography and abstract composition of surfaces. Among other things, Esperanza Spierling is concerned with the question of whether a photograph can be viewed as a minimalist image .

The spatial views shown (e.g. museums, public interiors, subway stations, planetariums) are shown strictly frontal, deserted and untouched. Esperanza Spierling sees the increased emptiness of the room as a free imaginary space for the viewer, which she includes in the work of art: "If the museum serves as a stage for art, the stage in my work is empty. The viewer fills it with Meaning becomes the main character ". In this way, the empty space becomes the viewer's free imagination.
